Three other accomplices of the would-be-bombers were also arrested from the garrison city of Rawalpindi on a tip from the suspected bombers, Interior Advisor Rehman Malik told reporters at the parliament house.

He added that the police foiled a major terror plot, adding the preliminary interrogations with the arrested man have been completed.

The interior advisor said it was due to the steps taken by the government that these arrests were made.

The arrests came few days after the lethal suicide car bomb attack near the Denmark embassy in Islamabad, which killed at least eight people, including two local employees of the embassy.

Local media reported that the arrested men are being questioned about their plans.

TV channels said that the explosives amounted to nearly 500 kilograms and were placed in three cars.

The bombers and their vehicles are in the custody of the military intelligence and police are not involved in the investigation process, reports said.

According to reports that bombers were planning to target the camp office of President Pervez Musharraf, located near the army house.

Musharraf himself has been living in the army house Rawalpindi since he has relinquished the position of army chief in November.
