In New Delhi, about 100 invited guests, Malaysian diplomatic community and expatriates, including Indians, attended a get-to-gather at the Malaysian High Commission here.

The event began with the hoisting of the Malaysian flag (Jalur Gemilang) and singing of the national anthem.

“It is a very special occasion for us. It is the birthday of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong (Malaysian king). I believe in such occasions, it is important to renew our affection to the King and country,” said Malaysian High Commissioner to India Tan Seng Sung in his speech.

Outside New Delhi, Malaysia’s Consul-General based in Chennai and Mumbai also hosted similar gatherings attended by students and businessmen.

“Our Agong (king) is the symbol of unity and we take this opportunity to enhance relations among Malaysians living in Mumbai. About 120 people attended the reception today,” said Zaidi Wan Abdullah, Malaysia’s consul-general in Mumbai.

In PAKISTAN, it was a two-day event. On the eve, the Malaysian embassy in Islamabad hosted a doa selamat, yassin and tahlil session, followed by a reception yesterday.

“It was truly a memorable event. The occasion was meaningful in strengthening unity, harmony, tolerance and, above all, the friendship among Malaysians, Pakistanis and the Asean community in Islamabad,” said Malaysian High Commissioner to Pakistan Ahmad Shahizan Abdul Samad.
