Uttaranchal’s BJP govt. cold on minority welfare: ex-minister

Saharanpur: The minority welfare programmes started by the previous Congress government in Uttaranchal have been cancelled by present Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government there, alleged state’s ex-minister Mohammad Yaqub Siddiqui.

Addressing a press conference on 6th June former minority affairs minister Siddiqui said his party’s government had secured a grant of Rs three crores from the union government for promotion of Urdu language and this amount had already been released by the union government but the present government did not utilize that sum.

He said Narayan Datt Tiwari government had granted Rs 50 crore for minorities’ welfare but the BJP government has reduced it to 10 crores and even that amount is not being used. The former minister said the Congress government had granted Rs one crore for opening a BUMS college in Uttaranchal and the present government has annulled it too. He alleged that all development work in Uttaranchal have been stopped in this BJP government.
