Ljubljana : US President George W Bush is due to arrive in the Slovenian capital later on Monday amid tight security precautions to take part in a scheduled EU-US summit.
Authorities have shut businesses and services in whole districts in the capital and at locations close to the venue of the summit, as part of unprecedented, costly sechjurity measures.
Although the Slovenian authorities have attached great significance to the summit, due to be held at the ancient castle of Brdo, a top landmark of the European country, many local observers and ordinary natives feel that the top-level meeting carries no political weight, given the fact that Bush has only a few months in office.
Bush is due to hold a news conference after the summit, due to get underway on Tuesday — also involving senior officials of Slovenia, current chairman of the European Union.
The summit is scheduled to address the protracted peace process for the Middle East, the Iraqi question, the Iranian nuclear issue, conditions in the Balkans, Central Asia and the Caucasus.
The agenda also deals with global climatic changes, negotiations within the framework of the World Trade Organization (WTO), development, health affairs, global security and free movement of people.
