Pakistan scraps peace deal with militants

Islamabad : The Pakistani government has scrapped a peace deal with the militants in the northwest, saying the insurgents have reneged on their promise to stop violence, a senior official said here Monday.

The North West Frontier Province (NWFP) administration last month had signed a peace agreement with the militants in Swat valley.

The militants had agreed that they would refrain from attacking the security forces.

“The Swat agreement is scrapped as the militants have kept on their attacks on security forces,” Rahman Malik, adviser to Prime Minister Sayed Yousaf Raza Gillani, told reporters.
