Speaking of the political arena in the Jewish state, Peres said Israeli election system needs to be modified in such a way that would allow university students to be voted directly to the Knesset, the country’s parliament.

“There are 230,000 young people attending Israel’s universities. These youngsters served in the army, where they were given guns and operated aircraft. They are far more advanced than we are,” local daily Yedioth Ahronoth quoted Peres as saying.

Meanwhile, the 85-year-old veteran in Israel’s politics for the past 60 years called on Israeli young generation to enter the politics and “fix it from within instead of complaining about it from the outside.”

Peres made the remarks after receiving a report from a social studies institute which finds that the seven-million-plus population is displaying a growing indifference to politics.
