Abu Dhabi : The United Arab Emirates’ has its first copper rod plant — a 110,000 tonnes per annum capacity $45 million unit, owned by Dubai Cables Co (Ducab).
“The state-of-art copper rod factory will apply the highest international quality standards and provide all of Ducab’s rod requirements. In addition, there will be production available to serve the regional market,” Ducab Chairman Ahmad bin Hassan Al-Sheikh said Monday on the inauguration of the plant.
“With the new factory having been officially inaugurated today, we will be able to replace imported copper rod with material manufactured in the UAE. It’s a further strengthening of the United Arab Emirates’ industrial base,” said Ducab Managing Director Andrew Shaw.
Ducab, which is jointly owned by the Dubai and Abu Dhabi governments, plans to meet the growing demand for copper rod and power cables in the region with the new plant.
