Yusril, 52, today expressed the hope that the Crescent and Star Party (PBB), of which he is chief patron, will support him to become a candidate in the 2009 presidential election.

“I hope to race for the next presidency through PBB, so the party should gain enough votes to support me for the presidency,” he was quoted as saying by Antara news agency in Medan.

Yusril, who earned a Ph.D in law at USM’s Institute of Postgraduate Studies, is a former Minister/State Secretary.

He said he had held roadshows in several regions in his bid for the presidency.

“We have toured many regions. Last Sunday, I went to Buton, South Sulawesi, and then to Makassar, and I just returned from Gorontalo (North Sulawesi) last night to prepare for the 2009 general election as well as for the direct presidential election,” he said.
