Mumbai : The country’s second largest pilgrimage destination in western India – the Sant Gajanan Maharaj Sansthan in Shegaon – has successfully computerised its temple trust.
Pune-based IT service provider Patni Computers Wednesday announced it has successfully finished installation of SAP ERP (Strategic Enterprise Management: Enterprise Resource Planning) and described the event as “the first of its kind in a place of worship in India”.
The company said the primary aim behind the move was to streamline the various functions of the temple trust through automation of donation and collection records.
“With daily footfall touching 3,000, coupled with a network of nine branches and over 20,000 daily transactions, the trust needed a drastic overhaul and expansion in its existing operational structure. This was achieved through computerisation,” it said.
In a statement, trust chairman S.S. Patil said the temple authorities would now be able to handle larger volumes of transactions and all activities would become more transparent to devotees.
“The computerisation has helped us reinforce our accountability to institutions and devotees who donate funds to facilitate the temple’s smooth functioning,” he said.
