New Delhi : The Indian Air Force (IAF) Sarang helicopter display team has been adjudged the “best looking close formation” at the just concluded ILA Berlin Air Show.
Out of the five helicopter formation teams that performed during the show, the Sarangs “stood out conspicuously, doing the nation proud,” an IAF statement said Thursday.
Helicopter display teams from Austria, Britain, Germany and Switzerland also participated in the air show.
The Sarang team of four indigenously built Dhruv advanced light helicopters, 14 officers and 32 airmen led by Wing Commander Shashank Mishra, is currently participating in various displays in Britain.
The team is slated to perform at the Biggin Hill Air Show, followed by the Waddington Air Show, the Fairford Royal International Air show and the prestigious Farnborough International Air Show before returning home.
The Sarang team was formed in March 2002 “to showcase the professionalism of the IAF”, the statement said.
Its first public display was during the 2004 Asian Aerospace at Singapore in 2004. Since then, it has graduated to a four-helicopter team and has participated in numerous displays in India and abroad.
