Mumbai : Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) chairman Mukesh Ambani said Thursday that the company’s new refinery at Jamnagar, expected to be commissioned ahead of schedule this year, would become the refining hub of the world.
In his address to shareholders at the 34th annual general meeting here, Ambani said the facility would add 580,000 barrels to global capacity per day.
He also said RIL would commission 900,000 tonnes of annual polypropylene production at Jamnagar this year.
“Reliance is on its way to become a global energy player,” Ambani said. “In just four years, Reliance and its subsidiaries in Dubai have been awarded 14 blocks spread over seven countries.”
On the exploration and production front, Ambani said the company was on track for its oil and gas production to take off later this year.
During 2007-08, RIL made eight new discoveries across four major offshore basins in India.
