Beijing : China will introduce more rules to regulate the post-quake reconstruction work, officials said Thursday.
On May 12, an earthquake measuring 8.0 on the Richter scale jolted the south-western Sichuan province, killing and wounding thousands in the aftermath.
More than 69,000 people have been killed in the quake.
“The State Council will formulate more rules to regulate the reconstruction task,” Cao Kangtai, director of the council, said at a press conference.
“The council has adopted a set of new proposals to rebuild the quake-hit areas,” Cao said. Damaged industrial and commercial infrastructures would be built.
On Tuesday, for the first time China introduced regulations to rebuild damaged infrastructures in the quake-hit areas, including penalties for substandard construction.
The rules will cover reconstruction, planning, assessment, finance, policies, supervision and management of disaster relief operations.
