Gurgaon : Top seed Isha Lakhani continued her good run in the $10,000 ITF tennis tournament thrashing sixth seed Appineni Prerana-Mythhri in straight sets to enter the semi-finals at the National Tennis academy (NTA) courts here Thursday.
Isha was in a punishing mood and Prerana could do little to check the onslaught and lost 2-6, 4-6. As luck would have it, Prerana needed treatment for a bothersome wrist before the match.
Twentythree-year-old Isha was in sublime touch and was broken just once in the match, in the sixth game of the second set to put Prerana up 4-3. But the sixth seed failed to capitalise on the advantage and Isha went on to win the next three games to take the set and the match.
Isha, however didn’t sound too happy with her performance. ” I could have won more easily. I gave her some cheap points. But overall I am satisfied. My focus now is on the upcoming tournaments in China and Turkey,” she said.
In the battle between the Bhambri sisters, Ankita registered a comfortable, 6-3, 6-2 win over Sanaa, her seventh victory in eight international meetings with her younger sibling. Third seed Ankita now meets Isha in the semi-finals with a 9-1 head-to-head record.
In the other singles match, 30-year-old Rushmi Chakravarthi overcame mid-match jitters against seventh seeded Korean Han Sung-hee to beat her 6-1, 4-6, 6-3. Chakravarthi next faces in the semi-finals Vietnam’s Thuy Dung Nguyen who outplayed Chinese He Chun-yan 6-4, 6-1.
