CPI-M not against all foreign capital: Yechury

Malappuram (Kerala) : Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) politburo member Sitaram Yechury Friday said here his party was not against foreign capital that would bring in new technology, increase production and generate more employment.

Yechury, who was speaking at a seminar “The World of EMS (Namboodiripad) ” at Tanur in Malappuram district, pointed out that CPI-M ruled states like West Bengal were accepting foreign capital on the basis of these criteria.

He stressed that it was the intervention of the Left parties that held back the central government from substantially increasing the prices of fuel.

“The BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) government under Vajpayee increased the prices of petroleum products 33 times in six years and its value by 250 percent. We could prevent such an onslaught with continuous pressure on the government,” Yechuri said.
