Israel’s Geophysical Institute measured the tremors respectively at the magnitudes of 3.8 and 3.9 on the Richter scale, both of which were centered in southern Lebanon and felt by residents of northern Israel, with no injuries, deaths or damage reported.

The quakes came a day after five tremors struck Lebanon within three hours, two of which had a magnitude of over 4. Residents in northern Israel, which borders Lebanon, felt the harmless quakes.

The last major earthquake rattled the area in 1927, which measured over 6 on the Richter scale and killed about 500 people. Local daily Ha’aretz quoted experts as saying that an earthquake of the same magnitude today would kill more than 18,000 people due to the population growth and high-rise construction.
