Sydney : After India’s Ishan Sharma seemed to have got the measure of Ricky Ponting in the summer, now West Indian Jerome Taylor has made the the life of the Australian captain miserable out in the middle.
It would be a little premature to label Ponting their bunny, but the two fast bowlers certainly had the Australia skipper hopping. Sharma had him thrice, twice in Tests and once in the One-Dayers in the summer while Taylor has dismissed him six times in eight inning, four of those LBW.
Ponting fell to the 23-year-old Taylor for the third consecutive time in the first innings of the third Test at Bridgetown, Barbados, trapped LBW just moments after bashing back-to-back sixes off Daren Powell on his way to a quickfire 18, reports the Daily Telegraph.
Head-to-head this series, Ponting has scored just 20 runs off 42 balls from Taylor in being dismissed three times.
It should come as no surprise then, that Ponting’s highest score of 168 this tour came in the first Test came when Taylor was absent with a lower back injury.
