Equity markets stay flat in early trade

Mumbai : The Indian equity markets stayed flat in early trade Tuesday, after the Sensex opened with a marginal loss.

The Sensex, the 30-share benchmark index of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), opened with a loss of 7.46 points at 15,388.36. Ten minutes into trading, it had reached 15,413.69, a gain of 17.87 points or 0.12 percent from its closing figure Monday.

At the same time the S&P Nifty index of the National Stock Exchange was trading at 4,575.10 points with a marginal gain of 1.40 points or 0.06 percent from its last close.

The market breadth was positive. On BSE, 847 shares advanced, 448 declined and 38 remained unchanged.

Jaiprakash Associates, BHEL and Maruti Suzuki were among the top gainers while Reliance Communication, Bharti Airtel and ICICI Bank were among the top losers in initial trade.

Other Asian markets were trading mixed.
