Kozhikode : A patient admitted to Kerala’s Kozhikode Medical College Hospital died Monday after a chunk of plaster from the ceiling fell on him.
The victim, Damodaran, was admitted to the hospital Sunday after he vomited blood. According to hospital authorities, he was suffering from tuberculosis.
Damodaran, 65, was lying on the hospital corridor, as no bed was available in the hospital ward where he was admitted. The plaster from the ceiling fell on him in the morning and hospital authorities immediately shifted him to the intensive care unit. But Damodaran died in the afternoon.
“A huge portion of the plaster fell on his abdomen and chest. He died because of that,” a relative who was with Damodaran told IANS.
Hospital authorities, however, denied that the accident was the reason for the patient’s death. Medical College principal Sudheendra Ghosh said the patient died due to his illness. The x-ray and scan reports did not reveal any injuries on him due to the accident, he maintained.
