Equity markets turn volatile in early afternoon trade

Mumbai : The Indian equity markets turned volatile early Wednesday afternoon under selling pressure on banking and technology stocks.

At 12:30 p.m., the 30-share benchmark index of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), the Sensex, was at 15,639.30, down by 57.60 points or 0.37 percent from its closing figure Tuesday. At the day’s low it had touched 15,616.46.

However, the market breadth was positive. On BSE, 1,769 shares advanced, 615 declined and 59 remained unchanged.

At the same time the broader based S&P CNX Nifty index of the National Stock Exchange was down by 15.75 points or 0.34 percent to 4,637.25
