Infiltration and violence likely to increase in Jammu Kashmir: Anthony

Baramulla : Defence Minister A K Anthony on Wednesday warned that militant attacks and infiltration could increase in Jammu and Kashmir as assembly elections in the state draw near.

A K Anthony addressed troopers of 19 infantry Brigade Baramulla after visiting forward post at LoC in Kupwara.

“In the coming three months there could be more attempts of infiltration and violence,” Anthony told reporters after the address.

He further said that the things were much better and the situation was under control at the moment in the entire state. He said there could be attempts of infiltration and “we have to be more careful”.

“There are forces within and outside the county who do not want free and fair elections and would try to disrupt peace and create problems”, Anthony said.

“From our side, we will provide logistic support for free and peaceful elections, we have to be more vigilant and are ready to meet any eventuality,” he added.

The Defence Minister said that although the over all security situations had vastly improved there was no room for complacency as coming months were full of challenges.

When asked about the media reports regarding Kargil like situation in Doda and Kishtwar the defence minister denied that there is such situation in these areas and forces are having control in these areas.

He said that the situation in the State had improved a lot and massive development activities were going on. He said the central government was fully assisting the State government in its agenda for development.

He said peace and stability being prerequisite for development, the army and security forces were excellently performing their duties for maintaining peace in the State.
