Local Government Minister Manoranjan Kalia said the plot on court road in Amritsar was supposed to be an open space. He said an official sold the land to former deputy speaker Lal’s sons and wife a few years back.

Kalia said Lal’s family got a building constructed illegally at the spot, blocking road visibility and making the area prone to accidents. Former municipal councillor Naresh Sharma had filed a complaint against the construction.

The minister said the probe would be conducted against Lal and the official who sold the plot.

He added that the orders of the previous Congress government allowing the building to be constructed would be reviewed and the site will to restored to its original plan.
