New Delhi : Saina Nehwal moved into the second round of Indonesia Super series badminton championship after a straight set win over local favourite Rosaria Yusfin Pungkasari in the women’s singles in Jakarta Wednesday.
India’s challenge in men’s singles though ended on the very first day with both Anup Srihar and Arvind Bhat losing their respective matches.
Saina packed off qualifier Yusfin 21-12, 21-14 in just 25 minutes to set-up a second round clash with third seed PI Hongyan of France.
The Indian came into the tournament riding on a form high which saw her reach the semifinal of the Singapore Open last week, which was also the first semifinal appearance by any Indian woman shuttler in any Super Series event.
In men’s singles, Sridhar gave a tough fight to Denmark’s Joachim Persson but went down 23-21, 9-21, 14-21.
Arvind Bhat lost to Alamsyah Yunus of Indonesia 21-23, 22-20, 12-21.
