Shimla : Asha Swaroop Friday became the second woman since the formation of Himachal Pradesh to take over as the chief secretary of state.
Swaroop, who replaces Ravi Dhingra, is the second woman officer to hold the post after Rajindra Bhattacharya, who was chief secretary during the earlier tenure of Chief Minister P.K. Dhumal.
Swaroop was secretary in the information and broadcasting ministry before she returned to her home cadre this week. A 1973 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS)officer, she is set to retire in July 2010.
Dhingra, who was appointed chief secretary by the previous Congress government in the state, has been made secretary of the inter-state zonal council in the ministry of home affairs.
