Bangalore : Three militants of the outlawed People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) of Manipur, and three of their associates have been detained and sent to police custody for 10 days in Karnataka, police said here Saturday.
The Bangalore police arrested the six Friday, after an alert by military intelligence that some PREPAK members, involved in several cases of murder, extortion and other unlawful activities in Manipur, were living in the city.
The arrested PREPAK members are Ibungo Singh, 29, Laikhuram Jiten Singh, 30 and Mijim Johny Singh, 26. Three of their associates, Almer Mohammed, 23, a west Asian national, Megha Chandra alias Ibungo, 27, and Vikas Pradhan, 24, were also picked up for questioning.
The PREPAK members were arrested from their rented house in Kaggadasapura, about 15 km from the city centre. Their associates were picked up from another house in nearby Mahadevapura locality.
Six mobile phones, several SIM cards and documents have been seized and the detained men arrested are being questioned about their activities here and Manipur, police said.
They are not known to have indulged in any unlawful activity in Bangalore. A police team from Manipur has arrived here to interrogate the militants.
Ibungo Singh had taken a house in Kaggadasapura saying that he was a software engineer in an IT company in the city.
The six did not interact with the neighbours and kept to themselves, police said.
