Opposition parties in the country filed two constitutional petitions last month, followed by another petition signed by about96,000 individuals, asking the top court to suspend the U.S. beef agreement signed in April that opened the South Korean market to most U.S. beef products.

The claimants said in the petitions that the government’s decision was “a surrender of Korea’s sovereignty on quarantine rights and a violation of people’s right to health,” Yonhap reported.

The Constitutional Court said it will make a preliminary decision on the petitions this week, Yonhap said.
