Lucknow : The Uttar Pradesh government has directed state-wide raids to check manufacturing and supply of spurious soft drinks as three children died and several fell ill after consuming such beverages in Kushinagar district last week.
“Chief medical officers across the state have already been directed to identify spurious cold drink manufacturing units in their respective districts and take stringent action against the culprits,” Director General (medical and health) I.S. Srivastava told IANS here Monday.
To swoop down on the illegal cold drink manufacturing units, special teams comprising doctors, food inspectors and police officers have also been constituted, said officials.
Taking serious note of the Kushinagar incident, the government has already suspended the district magistrate and three policemen for their laxity in checking supply of spurious cold drinks, they added.
