Manila : Seven crew members drowned and 26 others went missing when a cargo vessel sank off the Philippines’ central province of Iloilo over the weekend, local media reported on Tuesday.
The coal-laden M/V Lake Paoay, with 37 people on board, was sailing in the waters of Carles town when strong waves battered it at the height of typhoon Fengshen’s onslaught over the weekend, Philippine TV network ABS-CBN reported.
The cargo vessel was on its way from Antique province to Cebu when tragedy took place.
Four crew members were swept to the shores off an island in Masbate province and rescued by local villagers.
The Philippine Coast Guard has launched a search mission for the 26 missing crewmen.
