The visits by leaders of the two countries enhance mutual understanding and bring benefits to the two peoples. They are also conducive to the regional and world peace, stability and development, said Triet.

Sihamoni arrived in Hanoi Tuesday on a three-day official visit. President Triet held a grand welcome ceremony for him before talks started.

Sihamoni thanked Triet for the warm welcome. He is scheduled to meet with General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee Nong Duc Manh on Wednesday.

The visit, seen by Vietnamese newspapers, will help implement consensus reached by leaders of the two countries and push forward bilateral relations to a new level.

Over the past few years, economic and political exchanges between Vietnam and Cambodia have been frequent at all levels. The trade value between the two countries stood at 1.18 billion U.S. dollars last year. The two sides vow to expand bilateral trade to 2.3 billion dollars by 2010.
