London : A Muslim student accused of failing to tell police of an alleged suicide bomb plot was released on bail Tuesday, a court ruled.
Hashi Ahmed Omer, 18, appeared in custody at Westminster Magistrates’ Court, in central London. The Somalian, from Bristol, south-west England, was arrested by police counter-terrorism officers last week.
Omer is accused of failing to tell police about preparations for a suicide bomb attack allegedly conducted by his friend Andrew Ibrahim.
Ibrahim, 19, also from Bristol, is awaiting trial at the Criminal Court of the Old Bailey, in central London, accused of possessing explosives and preparing for a terrorist attack.
Judge Timothy Workman released Omer, on conditional bail.
The conditions include an electronic tag to enforce an overnight curfew, and 100 pounds sureties from Omer’s uncle and grandmother. Omer was arrested by detectives investigating the alleged Ibrahim bomb plot last Monday.
Officers have been studying thousands of hours of CCTV as well as hundreds of possessions and documents as part of a massive inquiry that followed Ibrahim’s arrest last April.
The judge adjourned the case until August 5 for another hearing at the same court.
