Tally form of polling cmte head is official count record — justice minister

By KUNA,

Kuwait : The cardboard form on which the head of the polling committee tallies the votes during the ballot count is the one that will be used when results from the different committees are added up, said Minister of Justice and Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Hussein Al-Huraiti on Wednesday.

The minister was speaking to reporters after touring polling stations in the municipal by-elections for the fourth constituency. He was accompanying Interior Minister Hussein Al-Huraiti.

Al-Huraiti explained that justices heading the polling committees would be using projectors to display the names of all candidates and the ballot count, replacing the white board that was used in the past.

This method was also used in the May 17 parliamentary elections, he noted, adding that the justice’s tally form was what would be used as the official count.

A justice may recruit the help of the committee secretary appointed by the Interior Ministry during the ballot count, and representatives of candidates had to be present in order for the count to begin, he said.

Asked to comment on the contested results of the parliamentary elections, the minister said he respected all filed contestations and he would also respect the decision of the judicial system once it was announced.
