Dubai : The worsening situation of cricket in Zimbabwe and the selection of Sunil Gavaskar’s successor for the post of cricket committee’s chairman would top the agenda of the International Cricket Council (ICC) chief executives’ committee meeting here Sunday.
Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) plunged into severe crisis after its loyal ally Cricket South Africa (CSA) and England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) snapped their ties due to lack of human rights in the African nation.
For Gavaskar’s successor, the members of the executive committee have put forward two prominent names, Majid Khan of Pakistan and West Indies’ Clive Lloyd.
Besides these, the proposed Test Championships and the proposal that a lawyer rather than a Match Referee should hear the more serious offences under the ICC Code of Conduct will also be argued.
West Indian cricketer Marlon Samuels’ two-year ban on charges of match fixing will also be discussed. A three-member ICC committee, which reviewed the West Indies Cricket Board’s (WICB) disciplinary committee finding on Samuels’ ban, will also submit its report.
The two-day meeting will make decisions on a range of matters relating to the playing rules of the game as well as recommendations on the business of cricket for consideration by the ICC board, which meets here Wednesday.
