Washington : President George W. Bush has named Santanu “Sandy” K. Baruah, an Indian American, to be Administrator of the Small Business Administration (SBA), an independent agency of the federal government, to help small business concerns.
Baruah currently serves as Assistant Secretary for Economic Development at the Department of Commerce. He takes over from Steve Preston, who has been nominated Secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The SBA, with a mission to help Americans start, build and grow businesses, has an extensive network of field offices and partnerships with public and private organisations throughout the US.
Before this, Baruah served as Chief of Staff of the Economic Development Administration at the Department of Commerce.
Earlier in his career, he served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Economic Development at the Department of Commerce. Baruah received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Oregon and his master’s degree from Williamette University.
