“The chance of me staying in the job is nil,” he told the Spanish TV station Cuatro.

Aragones, 69, had already announced he would be stepping down after the tournament to take on a job in club management, probably with Turkish side Fenerbahce.

Former Real Madrid coach Vicente Del Bosque is the favourite to take over.

Aragones said the title triumph – Spain’s first for 44 years – was purely down to the team.

“The team knew they could achieve it. They did everything right,” he said.
