Versailles (France) : Jeev Milkha Singh and Shiv Kapur completed their Open De France ALSTOM campaign in tied 21st place, even as Jeev must be ruing his play on the back nine and dropped three shots in two holes but for which he may have been in top-10.
Despite that Jeev (69) and Kapur (67) as also Jyoti Randhawa (69) bounced back from their third round nightmares as they carded excellent under par rounds on the final day. Kapur and Jeev made a good upward move final day to finish inside top-20, while Randhawa restored his confidence for coming weeks with a final round 69 following his third round 81.
Kapur (76) unable to find a single birdie a day after finding nine in the second round, had two bogeys and a triple bogey to drop to tied 43rd after being eighth the previous day. Randhawa had three birdies on the back nine, but he also had four bogeys and a triple during a front nine 43 and had one more bogey and a five-over 8 on par-3 16th.
Spaniard Pablo Larrazabal held off the challenge of European Tour’s stalwarts and won the title. He had a superb final round of four-under 67 that saw him finish at 15 under par 269, four shots clear of Colin Montgomerie, to take the first prize of €666,660.
Larrazabal, who came through 36 holes of qualifying to make it to Le Golf National, entered the tournament ranked 481st in the Official World Golf Ranking.
The European Tour rookie Larrazabal will play his first Major at next month’s Open Championship and has secured a place on The European Tour until the end of 2010. Larrazabal, soon after the win, was thrown in the 18th green’s lake by his brother Alejandro and his European Tour colleagues Gonzalo Fernandez-Castaño, Igancio Garrido and José Manuel Lara as part of celebrations.
