An Israeli jet fired three rockets at the mosque and the police station, leaving six Palestinians dead and several others injured, while the mosque was destroyed, Palestinians sources were quoted as saying.

Hamas-linked sources said a bodyguard of Mahmoud al-Zahar, a Hamas leader, was killed in armed clashes going on in northern Gaza Strip.

Thus, the Gaza death toll of the unfinished Israeli aggression has risen up to 58, the sources added.

Eyewitnesses said Rafah was now in dark blackout due to power cutoff over Israeli air strikes.

Israeli warships are still intensively flying over the cities of the Gaza Strip amid fears of further Israeli air raids.

In DAMASCUS, Syria Saturday condemned the Israeli vicious crimes against the Palestinian people in Gaza Strip.

An official media source was quoted by state-run news agency (SANA) as saying the silence of the Arabs and international community regarding these horrible crimes would further fuel tension in the region and complicate the Palestinian cause.

Syria calls on the international community to live up to its responsibilities and restore international peace and security by stopping the Israeli war machine which killed nearly 60 Palestinians and injured at least 180 others, said the source.

In AMMAN, King Abdullah II of Jordan Saturday condemned the Israeli military operations in Gaza Strip and said they were in violation of the international norms.

King Abdullah, in a phone call with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, condemned the Israeli aggression and massacres against the Palestinian people in Gaza Strip, an official statement said.

King Abdullah said the Israeli aggression was “dangerous and violating international norms.” The Jordanian King said his country would coordinate with the international community to stop the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people.

Abbas, said the statement, briefed King Abdullah about the developments in Gaza and described the Israeli assault as “international terrorism” against the Palestinian people, in which 52 persons were killed and some 180 injured.

In CAIRO, Egypt Saturday condemned the ongoing Israeli military operations against Gaza Strip killing scores of people and injuring many others.

The Israeli operations are “unacceptable” and are fueling tension in the region, foreign ministry spokesman Hussam Zaki said in a statement.

He said it was regrettable that Israel keeps pounding people in Gaza Strip, and being careless about the negative consequences.

Zaki said it was important that Israel cease the military operations immediately.
