“There is a belief in our culture that sacrifice of animals appease our god and it also helps in warding off the evil spirit,” said Putkar Hembrom, a tribal priest.

He said: “It seems that India is under the shadow of evil sprit. India manages to reach to the finals in cricket but loses the final match”.

The tribals prayed to god, put vermilion on the head of the chicken and lit incense sticks. After praying to god, they sacrificed the chicken. “We hope India will trounce Australia in the final match,” said Soma Munda, another tribal priest.

The tribals also feel that Dhoni committed a mistake by changing his hairstyle. “Dhoni’s power and concentration came from his long hair. Dhoni should not have got his hair cut,” said Sohrai Oraon, a tribal.
