New Delhi : The government had received “intelligence inputs” about a terrorist attack on the Tihar Central Jail here last year, Minister of State for Home Affairs V. Radhika Selvi said in the Lok Sabha Tuesday.
“An intelligence input regarding plans of jehadi terrorist attack on Tihar jail was received during September 2007,” Selvi said in a written reply to a question posed by Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Prada.
The jail is Asia’s biggest jail with around 11,500 inmates. It has a sanctioned capacity of 6,250 prisoners. The main jail is in west Delhi with a branch in Rohini. The jail inmates include terrorists and politicians undergoing trial.
“Preventive and precautionary measures have been taken to protect Delhi jails from fidayeen (suicide) attacks,” Selvi added.
