In a statement earlier in today’s sitting, Deputy Premier and State Minister for Cabinet Affairs Faisal Al-Hajji had made a number of proposals aimed at curbing unemployment and to effectively incorporate Kuwaitis in the labor market.

Accordingly, a sitting will be allocated at the beginning of the next parliamentary session in October during which the government will present its visions and plans for resolving the unemployment problem.

Also, the parliament approved a second proposal whereby the government promised to present a complete strategy for eliminating weaknesses in the current employment system, as outlined by the government in the statement read by Al-Hajji, as well as based on points raised by MPs.

Moreover, the parliamentary committee for employment and administrative reform was tasked with preparing a report on the issue, as well as another report to be discussed on May 13 on the appointment of leading positions.

A third proposal calls on the government to oblige employment nominations by the Civil Service Commission, and to have year-round registration at the commission.

The MPs also voted for a number of recommendations, including making the elimination of unemployment a priority on the government’s agenda, encouraging youth to set up their own small businesses, establishing a center for small business management and another for oil studies, and activating the role of the private sector and having it commit to the cabinet’s decision on national employment.

The MPs also recommended granting family care leaves for Kuwaiti women with 75 percent of the salary, thus providing a greater service to the family.
