UAE telecom operator sets up software unit in India

Dubai : United Arab Emirates’ leading telecom services provider Etisalat has entered the software solutions and mobile applications market in India.

The company has set up a new subsidiary in Bangalore called Etisalat Software Solutions, which will operate under the Technologia brand name, it said in a statement.

“Through our investment in research and development, we will further our mission and generate a constant stream of new products, services and opportunities to enhance our relationship with our customers,” Etisalat’s chief executive Mohammad Khalfa Al Khamzi said.

“A key objective for Technologia is to form a hub of innovation excellence, to support our growing international portfolio of operators and telecommunications related subsidiaries.”

Al Khamzi Tuesday inaugurated Technologia’s headquarters in the south Indian city, dubbed India’s Silicon Valley.

Registered as a 100 percent export-oriented unit, Technologia is targeted to provide software products and IT services to Etisalat, its subsidiaries and other telecommunications companies in the region.

During the initial phase, Technologia will have 50 software engineers. The headcount is expected to reach around 250 employees in the coming years.

“The software engineering team is geared to expand as market conditions dictate in order to cater to the demands of various projects and operators. We are constantly striving to adopt new technologies and methodologies to provide the latest return on investment models with great emphasis on quality,” Technologia’s chief executive Feroz Ahamad said.

Etisalat provides telecommunications services in 16 countries across Africa and Asia.
