Damascus : First Vice-President Parviz Davoudi said holding Arab summit meeting in Damascus will secure regional interests.
Talking to reporters, Davoudi said, “Iran supports holding the meeting on time and in a high level among Arab countries.” He added, “If Iran is invited to the meeting, considering our brotherly ties with Syria, we will accept it.”
The 20th Arab summit is to be held in Damascus on March 29-30, 2008 and issues like Lebanon, Palestine and Iraq are on agenda.
Eight Arab countries including Egypt, Jordan as well as six countries of the Persian Gulf area are to hold a meeting in Egypt before Damascus conference and consider Lebanon crisis.
Davoudi heading a high ranking delegation arrived in Damascus on Wednesday evening.
The Iranian delegation was welcomed by Syrian Prime Minister Muhammad Naji al-Atri at the airport.
Davoudi will preside Iran’s side in the supreme joint commission of Iran and Syria.
