McCain, who secured his party’s nomination last night after victory in all of the Tuesday 5 primaries, received the first endorsement from Bush during a press conference in the Rose Garden of the White House.

Though White House press secretary Dana Perino said that arguably “there are differences [in policy choices] between Bush and McCain, the two politicians have “many things… [they] agree on.”

During the conference, Bush spoke highly of McCain, saying that the nominee “showed incredible courage, strength of character and perseverance in order to get to this moment and that’s exactly what we need in a president-somebody who can handle the tough decisions, somebody who won’t flinch in the face of danger.”

Bush went on to say that though the Democratic presidential candidates are asking for change on this matter, McCain will not change how the United States confronts “the enemy.”

Bush also added that McCain understands there is “still an enemy that lurks,” and that “this is a dangerous world.”
