Geneva : The Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) has said that the Israeli military incursion and attacks could not be justified because of the sporadic rocket attacks by some Palestinians.
Addressing, the issue of the Human Rights of the Palestinian People in the Human Rights Council (HRC), Chair of OIC in Geneva, Pakistani Ambassador Masood Khan, told the Council Thursday that the root of all violence, insecurity and instability in the region was Israel’s protracted and forcible occupation of Palestinian and other Arab territories.
He called upon the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights to take a lead role in ensuring the implementation of Council resolutions.
The Arab group told the Council that the continued aggression by Israel against the Palestinian people in Gaza was a new cycle of war crimes and annihilation against the Palestinian people by the Israeli war machinery.
This, the Arab group said, was proven by statements made by Israeli officials that they would undertake a holocaust against the Palestinians in Gaza.
Palestinian Ambassador Dr Mohammad Abu-Koash, speaking on behalf of the Arab group, told the Council that such statements by Israeli officials showed the worst forms of racism, fascism and hatred by the Israelis towards the Palestinians.
He added that it also exposed the racist character of the Israeli state, the occupying power, and thus has allowed Israeli officials to commit a holocaust to annihilate the Palestinians while still holding Europe responsible for the Holocaust against the Jews.
The African group and the Nom-Aligned Movement (NAM), following the same lines, deplored the extremely disproportionate use of force by the Israeli army and its resort to heavy, indiscriminate bombardment of civilian dwellings to retaliate the launching of crude Palestinian rockets.
