Sri Lanka Army Captures Parappakandal City

Colombo : Sri Lanka army announced capture of Parappakandal northern strategic city so far in the hands of Tamil rebels, killing 24 during the fights that took place in that region.

According to a military dispatch spread in Colombo, Parappakandal, one of the biggest cities in northern Uyilankulan, completely passed under the troops control joining another defeat for the Tigers Tamil separatists which have the area under siege.

According to the dispatch 23 separatists and one soldier died in the clashes; the troops controlled the south of the city and moved forward to the north.

This locality is located in Mannar northern convulsive district where big combats are taking place in the last few months between governmental troops and the Tamil Eelam Liberation Tigers (TLTE)

Official statistics shows that 1,421 Tamil rebels died in combats, including 104 soldiers and 80 civilians.

In another incident legislator K. Sivanesan from the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) was assassinated in the afternoon in northern Sri Lanka, reported military sources on Wednesday.

Sivanessa, Tamil deputy for Jaffna province, died after a mine explosion that destroyed his vehicle in the wooded forest of Wanni, controlled by rebels.
