Dhaka : Bangladesh has planned to organize an international conference in London in May to draw attention of the world community on the climate change that affected the country adversely, officials have said.
“We will organize the conference in collaboration with the British donor agency Department for International Development ( DFID),” a senior official of Economic Relations Division (ERD) under the finance ministry said Friday.
The government’s move to arrange the conference titled “International Conference on the Impact of Climate Change on Bangladesh” came after two consecutive floods followed by cyclone Sidr hit the country last year.
The floods and cyclone left thousands of people dead and millions homeless, and caused severe damage to crops and infrastructure of the country.
A recent government-donors joint assessment said $4 billion fund would be required for a disaster risk reduction and management system in Bangladesh for next 15 years.
