New Delhi : Praising public health facilities in his home state Tamil Nadu, Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss Friday said the state could emerge as the best healthcare centre in India if it continues to take people friendly measures.
The minister was speaking after Tamil Nadu Health Minister M.R.K. Panneerselvam and other senior health officials met him here.
He said the state authorities are managing one of the finest public health systems in the country.
“Tamil Nadu has set a very good example of making the public health sector so good that it has become the facility of first choice for many households. This shift is indeed remarkable as public systems are often criticized for poor quality services,” he added.
Ramadoss said there has been a “dramatic shift in institutional deliveries and other patient care services” in the state. This has been because there are about 900 primary health centres that run round the clock, he said.
“I am sure if the current thrust on healthcare in Tamil Nadu is maintained it will emerge as perhaps the finest example in the country in providing health services to every household,” he added.
Ramadoss said the ongoing healthcare programmes in the state would be further strengthened under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), which aims to provide quality healthcare to the rural populace.
