Anantnag : Panic gripped the rally of social welfare minister Abdul Gani Vakil, in Damhal-Hanjipora village in South Kashmir, when special police officer (SPO) clashed with other police men, leaving two jawans injured.
Police said SPO was attacked by a villager when SPO Nick Baba was on duty and asked a civilian of Wanipora Shopian to get himself checked at Damhal Hanjipora.
Informed sources told News Agency of Kashmir that the incident occurred when the Congress leader and minister in the Congress-PDP coalition was addressing a rally of workers in the village, during which an altercation between the STF personnel on duty led to the firing leaving two security personnel injured.
“The two police personnel clashed over some issue and open the nosal of their AK’s on each other” a congress workers told NAK adding that two STF personnel were injured in shootout.
Eyewitness told News Agency of Kashmir that the businessman of the area, taking the incident as militant attack closed the shops and run for their safety, even the congress workers who had assembled in the rally ran away from the venue in fright.
Meanwhile Police spokesman claimed that a SPO of J&K police was seriously injured when a civilian attacked him with sharp edged weapon at Damhal Hanjipora, today.
Quoting SP Kulgam, Spokesman told News Agency of Kashmir that SPO Nick Baba was on duty when he asked a civilian Jehangir Ahmed Wani of Wanipora Shopian to get himself checked at Damhal Hanjipora.
“On this, a heated argument took place between the Jehangir Ahmed Wani and the SPO which turned into a scuffle” he added.
He said that during the scuffle, Jehangir Ahmed Wani attacked the said SPO with a sharp edged weapon, who sustained multiple injuries.
The injured SPO was rushed to hospital from where he has been referred to Srinagar.
Police has registered a case FIR No: 06/2008, under section 307 RPC in this regard and has taken up further investigations.
