Chinese envoy Calls for establishment of new Silk Road

Khorramshahr, Khuzestan prov : The Chinese ambassador to Tehran on Tuesday called for establishment of a new Silk Road.

Addressing a ceremony to inaugurate Chinese market in Arvand Free Trade Zone, Xie Xiaoyan said that Abadan, located in the
southwestern part of the province, which is an important port city enjoying high oil and gas reserves, plays a key role in expanding bilateral ties.

He noted that the ground is prepared for establishment of other industrial and manufacturing units in the region.

“High tariff rates is one of the problems hindering expansion of trade in this region,” the envoy said, expressing hope that the problem would ne solved by the relevant officials.

The Managing director of the Arvand Free Trade Zone, for his part, noted that this market will serve to curb goods smuggling.

“By establishing customs offices for domestic and foreign manufacturers, we can enjoy the advantages of this market,” Ramezan Ahmadi said.

The first phase of Chinese market consists of 546 pavilions manned by 300 businessmen. Dlrs 20 million has been set aside for the market.
