Representative of the Malaysian Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Pawanteh will attend the official ceremony to be held on the sidelines of the summit and hand over the chairmanship to Senegal’s President Abdoulaye Wade.

A press release issued by the Malaysia Foreign Ministry on Tuesday said that “Malaysia views the OIC as an important organization to serve and safeguard the interests of the Muslims globally.

Malaysia “will remain active in OIC as part of its commitment towards empowerment to the Muslims,” added the statement.” Deputy leader of the Malaysian National Front coalition Najib Abdulrazzaq told KUNA that as the 10th OIC presiding state, Malaysia presented several plans and initiatives to develop the Islamic nations in the political, economic, cultural, social, and security fields.

It focused on both economic and political issues and supported the causes of Bosnia, south Philippines, Lebanon, Somalia, and Iraq, he stresses.

It also gave attention to knowledge, technology, women, poverty, and developing its members’ infrastructure and administrative skills, he added.

He said Malaysia played an important role in the establishment of the World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF) and introduced the International Conference on Zakat.
