Buenos Aires : Argentina national football team coach Alfio Basile has not included Manchester United star Carlos Tevez in the squad for the friendly game against Egypt in Cairo on March 26.
Boca Juniors’ Juan Roman Riquelme and Barcelona’s Lionel Messi, who is currently injured, were also absent from Basile’s list.
“I will test playing without a playmaker. Perhaps the idea is to have Luis Gonzalez playing more aggressively starting from the midfield,” the coach said.
Bordeaux striker Fernando Cavenaghi was the main surprise in the squad, while Inter Milan’s Julio Cruz and Porto’s Luis Gonzalez and Lisandro Lopez returned to the national side.
“We are going to play a team that beat everyone at the African Nations Cup. It is a very good rival,” Basile noted.
