Toronto : Here is a lesson in policing for those cops who travel in the back seat in their cars and rarely look out of the window.
While on his way to his Toronto office Tuesday morning, Julian Fantino, head of police in the state of Ontario, saw a vehicle race past his Land Cruiser at a speed well over permissible limits on city highways.
The hugely built cop gave the driver a chase at a speed of 150 km per hour and pinned him down at an exit on highway 400.
The offender, identified as 32-year-old Christopher Nagler, faces a fine of $5,000. His driving licence has already been suspended and the vehicle impounded by the police.
It is not the first time that Italian-born Fantino has gone out of his way to perform his policing duties. On many occasions, he has chased and arrested speeding drivers.
As chief of Toronto City Police in 2004, he had pinned down an unruly man to the ground before arresting him.
He was given a one-year extension by the Ontario government Tuesday in recognition of his good work.
